Emeralds

R

Recently, more and more people ask me about emeralds. Their bright greenery beckons and attracts to itself, very often approaches clothes, looks expensive and beautiful.

Emerald is a green variety of the mineral beryl, which has other colors and names. Once upon a time, beryls colored green by chromium had the right to be called emerald, vanadium green did not give beryl the right to be called emerald. Only a chromium band in a spectrograph could call beryl an emerald. But now this requirement is gone, and all green beryls are already emeralds.

Emeralds have a huge mass of shades of green – light, dark, with black dots, with a slight blue overtone, bright and dull. For every taste. Their prices depend on the saturation and hue, and of course on the size and number of inclusions inside. quality standarts of the Soviet times do not allow inclusions to come to the surface, but world practice allows this completely – it just reduces the price of the stone.

Beryls are quite fragile stones, they must be carried carefully, not dropped. Store in a box separately, do not keep in the sun (but these are often general recommendations for precious stones). Most often, jewelry with emeralds no longer allows processing using soldering after setting, the stones will simply crumble or burn, so a ring bought in the wrong size is most likely not subject to correction. The only exception is laser soldering, it can be used to work with emeralds.

For ennoblement of emeralds. It is considered permissible to fill emeralds with colorless oil for their greater strength. Colored oil requires an indication of this on the tag or certificate.
